7 Ways To Boost Your Immune System

This post contains links to some of my favorite products to help boost your immune system.

With the start of cold and flu season on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about your immune health. Here are a few ideas to get you going:

1. Wash your hands!

The most important guard against getting sick is to wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds, especially after you’ve been out and about, after using the restroom, and before you eat.

2. Get enough sleep.

Lack of sleep is a serious knock against your immune system. It is recommended that you get at least eight hours of sleep per night.

3. Eat a healthy diet.

Just like your car, your body preforms better with a higher quality fuel. Your body needs the highest quality whole foods to perform optimally.  If you are really looking to supercharge your health, I suggest lots of dark leafy greens, broccoli, fruits, veggies and even offal (organ meats).

 4. Manage your stress.

It’s amazing how damaging stress can be to our bodies.  To learn more about stress and how to manage it check out my post Meet Stress, My Nemesis. (LINK)

5. Get moving.

Like most things, exercise requires balance. Too little exercise and you get no benefit, and too much you can push your system beyond what it can handle and it will shut down.  A happy medium is light to moderate activity five times per week.

Research indicates (LINK: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16444091/) that moderate aerobic exercise is associated with fewer episodes of upper respiratory tract infections and fewer days of symptoms per illness.

6. Hydrotherapy to boost immunity.

Hydrotherapy is the use of water for treatment. There are so many ways that water can used as a tool for optimal health. Here are a few of my favorites:

Wet socks is a method of stimulating your immune system by first contracting, then dilating your blood vessels. To try wet socks, you’ll need two pairs of socks, one cotton and one wool. At bedtime, dampen the cotton socks in cool water. Put the wet socks on first, then cover them with the dry wool socks. Wear the socks while you sleep. In the morning, your feet will be dry, and your immune system will have had a boost.

Another great hydrotherapy method is a contrast bath for your feet. Prepare two basins of water, one as hot as you can stand it (without burning yourself!), and the other as cold as you can stand it. Start by submerging your feet in the hot water for three minutes, and then transfer them to the cold water for 30 seconds. Repeat this pattern three times. When you are done, your feet will be bright red, and your immune system will be stimulated.

7. Take your vitamins.

Consider taking supplements to boost your immunity. Some of my favorites include:

Integrative Therapeutics EHB is an immune boosting super star.

Elderberries are another great alternative that no immune system should be without. Watch for our article about elderberries and immunity coming soon!

Integrative Therapeutics V Clear is something I always take at the first sign of a cold. It helps to shorten the duration and the severity of symptoms.
